William King was an English clergyman and writer, born on April 23, 1685 in Stepney, London, England. He was educated at the University of Dublin, where he received his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees before joining the Church of Ireland in 1709. King went on to become Archbishop of Dublin in 1729, a position he held until his death in 1729.

King was married twice, first to Elizabeth Harding in 1717, and then to Anne Daly in 1725. He was a champion of religious tolerance, standing up for the rights of Catholics in Ireland and advocating for their inclusion in public life.
Throughout his life, King was known for his wit and humor, and he was respected both as a religious leader and a writer. His commitment to social justice and equality made him a memorable and beloved figure in Irish history.
